A subject close to my heart, having spent a chunk of the 80s and early 90s working in Juvenile Justice in London under the last Tory government. We underinvest at our peril. Word to the wise, working in Juvenile Justice has taught me that teenagers are the thermometer of a family, often the truth tellers. Think of society as one big family and you'll see that people at the top are being told some uncomfortable truths about the values we hold.

Watching parliament today, I worry this message is being wilfully ignored but thank you for making the point, and in such a striking way. Hopefully the government is just providing rhetoric at the moment to satisfy immediate anger; and will move on to looking at this wider context. Keep up the good work (with a wish that maybe one day you won't need to anymore!)
Thanks for your comments - let's hope you re right; it's as clear as day that context is hugely significant and the politicians store up problems for everyone if they ignore the facts.
Very well said. It is easy for the government to blame police and any other bodies they care to. Whilst the yare doing so they are ignoring the most obvious issues (which you have outlined so eloquently on your latest posting). More power to your pen. Please carry on the good work.
